LOVERS of crystals don't have to travel all the way to Brazil or Madagascar for that special amethyst or that piece of rare quartz.

They can choose from the selection available at Crystaland, the treasure trove of natural crystals, minerals and gemstones in the trendy Darby Street area.

A long-time resident of Crown Street, Crystaland has just relocated to its new Darby Street home where it opens for business today.

``Darby Street is a busier and better area. I feel it's becoming Newcastle's Paddington," said Crystaland's owner, Lisa Davenport.

Lisa established the business and operated it from Crown Street for nine years before deciding to make the move.

The new Crystaland premises are the result of a joint development plan between Lisa and her long-time friend, Leanne Milne.

Leanne is the owner of the adjacent hairdressing salon, Sherlocks of Darby Street.

Sherlocks also relocated recently to the site after Lisa and Leanne decided to combine in the development of the two new buildings.

Crystaland's range includes large crystals imported from around the world, as well as minerals and quality hand-made jewellery including pendants, rings and earrings.

``We design a lot of our own jewellery, which is mainly silver, and all unique," said Lisa.

``We also stock a large variety of loose stones for settings, and can custom make jewellery to order."

As well as designing, Crystaland can also remake, remodel and repair jewellery.

As well as providing these items, Crystaland will also be the venue for a range of classes in such areas as kinesiology and feng shui.

The classes will be run by David Everett who has been teaching similar classes in Singapore and Newcastle for the past few years.

Tarot readings will also be available at Crystaland.
